This book provides insights into the possibilities, realities and challenges of the rapidly evolving world of 3D printing or additive manufacturing. Contributors cover the applications for 3D printing, available materials, research, and the business of additive manufacturing from start-ups to Fortune 500 companies. As an important part of the Women in Science and Engineering book series, the work highlights the contribution of women leaders in additive manufacturing, inspiring women and men, girls and boys to enter and apply themselves to world of 3D printing and be a part of bringing the true potential of 3D printing to fruition. The book features contributions of prominent female engineers, scientists, business and technology leaders in additive manufacturing from academia, industry and government labs.

  • Provides insight into women's contributions to the field of additive manufacturing;
  • Presents information from academia, research, government labs and industryinto advances and applications in the rapidly evolving and growing field of 3D printing;
  • Includes applications in industries such as medicine, aerospace, and automotive.

Stacey DelVecchio is President of Stacey D Consulting, focused on the business of additive manufacturing. She is a technical advisor with the Society of Manufacturing's Additive Manufacturing Community and an industry peer review panelist for Oakridge National Labs Manufacturing Development Facility. DelVecchio is a sought-after speaker on the value of additive and has been quoted in numerous technical magazines on 3D printing. Prior to launching her own consulting business, she was the Additive Manufacturing Product Manager for Caterpillar Inc. where her team leveraged the technology in all spaces, including new product introduction, supply chain and operations. Her team focused on deploying the technology by working with Caterpillar product groups on design for additive. DelVecchio also managed the Additive Manufacturing Factory. In her 30 years in industry, most of which was at Caterpillar, DelVecchio held numerous positions in engineering and manufacturing, including process and product development for nonmetallic components, production support for paint and process fluids, and the build and start-up for a green field facility in China. She is a certified 6 Sigma Black Belt, earning that classification by working on projects that included lean manufacturing, failure analysis, and employee engagement. Prior to her role in additive manufacturing, DelVecchio was the Hose & Coupling Engineering Manager with global responsibility for design, as well as the New Product Introduction Manager for Cat Fuel Systems. She managed the project management office for Caterpillar engines with responsibility for the project management of all new product introduction programs, continuous improvement projects, and cost reduction project in the division. DelVecchio also developed an engineering pipeline strategy to ensure the best engineering talent is available to meet global enterprise needs. DelVecchio holds a B.S. in chemical engineering from the University of Cincinnati in Ohio, USA. She was the 2013-2014 president of the Society of Women Engineers and was named a fellow of the society in 2015. She received the society's Advocating Women in Engineering Award in 2018. DelVecchio was the vice-chair of the Women in Engineering Committee for the World Federation of Engineering Organization, representing the American Association of Engineering Societies and continues to champion global expansion of the Society of Women Engineers. She has spoken in a dozen countries on the value of gender diversity in engineering and is a strong advocate for women in engineering. In 2019, she published her first e-book, entitled "I Wish...". It is a quick read of a collection of her wishes for the engineering community based on her 30+ years as an engineering leader that happens to be a woman.
