Joanne V. Hickey, PhD, RN, FAAN, FCCM, holds of the Patricia L. Starck/PARTNERS Professorship in Nursing and the Coordinator of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, School of Nursing. She received a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Boston College, an MSN from the University of Rhode Island, an MA in counseling from Rhode Island College, a PhD from the University of Texas at Austin, and a post-master's certificate as a nurse practitioner from Duke University. Dr. Hickey is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine. She is a member of numerous professional organizations including the American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American Association of Neuroscience Nursing.
