Joanne V Hickey, PhD, RN, FAAN, FCCM is a professor at the University of Texas health Science Center at Houston School of Nursing and holds the Patricia L. Starck/PARTNERS Professorship in Nursing at the. She is Coordinator, of the Doctor of Nursing Practice Program. She received a baccalaureate degree in nursing from Boston College, a master's of science degree in nursing from the University of Rhode Island, a master's of arts degree in counseling from Rhode Island College, a PhD degree from the University of Texas at Austin, and a post-master's certificate as a nurse practitioner from Duke University. Dr. Hickey is a fellow of the American Academy of Nursing and a fellow of the American College of Critical Care Medicine. She holds membership in numerous professional organizations including American Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International, Society of Critical Care Medicine, and American Association of Neuroscience Nursing. Christine A. Brosnan, DrPH, RN, recently retired as Associate Professor from the School of Nursing, University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston. There, in addition to teaching and clinical research, she held a number of administrative positions including Track Director for the MSN in Education Program, Assistant Dean for Professional Development, and Associate Dean for Academic Affairs. She received a bachelor of science in nursing from Georgetown University, a master of science in nursing from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and a doctorate in public health from the University of Texas Health Science Center-Houston School of Public Health. The major area of study in her doctoral work was Health Services Organizations. Dr. Brosnan has collaborated in research studies on the cost and effectiveness of newborn screening, screening for hypertension and obesity in children, and the early detection of type 2 diabetes. She has over 35 published articles, abstracts, chapters, proceedings, and letters, and has delivered numerous presentations on health care evaluation and related topics. Her manuscript Type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents: An emerging disease received the Excellence in Writing Award from the Journal of Pediatric Health Care.
