A rare behind-the-scenes look at the legendary Sal Minuchin's work as a practitioner and teacher of family therapy. In part one, Minuchin offers his views on what makes a good family therapist and discusses how therapists must use their own personal experiences to bring about change in troubled families. In part two, nine of Minuchin's supervisees each present a detailed case study along with Minuchin's ongoing commentary-and demonstrate how Minuchin's supervision enhanced their self-understanding and their therapeutic practice.
SALVADOR MINUCHIN, MD, is the author of the field's standard text, Families and Family Therapy, as well as numerous other works, including, most recently, Family Healing (with Michael P. Nichols). He is the former director of the Philadelphia Child Guidance Center, Director of Family Studies, Inc., and Research Professor of Psychiatry at New York University. He and his wife, Patricia, a psychologist and author, live in Boston, Massachusetts. WAI--YUNG LEE, PhD, is a faculty member of the Minuchin Center for the Family in New York City and Director of Family Studies in Hong Kong. She is a visiting lecturer at the Graduate School of Social Work and Social Administration at the University of Hong Kong. She has studied and worked with Salvador Minuchin since 1990. GEORGE M. SIMON, MS, is a faculty member of the Minuchin Center for the Family and a member of the supervising faculty of the Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Hofstra University. He is also on the staff of The Children's Center in Dobbs Ferry, New York, and the Family Service Association of Nassau County. He has studied and worked with Salvador Minuchin since 1990.
