Martin Helmke, born in 1969 and a qualified social pedagogue, began his fencing career 19 years ago in sport fencing with the saber. After an excursion into reenactment combat fighting, he began to deal with historical fencing at an early age. The long sword, sword & buckler and the heavy saber soon became his most important companions. His path eventually led him to the Academy of Fencing Art in Germany, where he completed his training as a fencing teacher for historical fencing. This publication is based on the master's thesis at the academy to obtain the freestyle for fencing master. Martin Helmke is a fencing teacher and owner of the fencing school "Der Fechtboden" and teaches the historical weapons long sword, sword & buckler and military saber in weekly training.
