A training guide for the nonprofessional mountain biker, this book provides elite-level information that is easy to follow and readily implemented into a busy life schedule. It covers topics such as equipment selection, bike mechanics, developing a training plan that fits your specific needs, proper nutrition, and more.
Mountain biking pushes athletes to their limits, racing over rough terrain across the country. But as popular as mountain biking races are, there are few resources to help mountain bikers who want to compete. Training for Mountain Biking: A Practical Guide for the Busy Athlete provides elite-level instruction for the non-professional athlete, from beginning to experienced racers. Topics covered in this book include:

Selecting and maintaining equipment
Developing a training plan
Strength and conditioning
Developing a sound and safe nutrition plan
Common injuries and injury prevention
Preparing for competitions

Most mountain bikers must be able to effectively balance strength and conditioning workouts, biking workouts, family, work, and recovery. This book is designed for just that purpose, helping athletes develop programs for their specific needs, whether training for health and wellness or winning the race.

Will Peveler, PhD, is professor of exercise science at Liberty University. His teaching areas are exercise physiology, biomechanics, and strength and conditioning at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. Peveler has raced mountain bikes, road bikes, running, and triathlons since 1995 and holds a black belt in Ketsugo-Ryu. He has coached cycling, triathlon, and martial arts. In addition, Peveler conducts physiological testing out of Liberty’s Human Performance Laboratory for local endurance athletes and fighters.
