Melissa A. Rittenhouse, PhD, RD, CSSD, is a Registered Dietitian and Certified Specialist in Sports Dietetics with a PhD in Exercise Physiology. She is currently a Nutritionist/Exercise Scientist for the Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine and is also a private practice dietitian for Sports and Wellness Nutrition.Dr. Rittenhouse's interest in nutrition and athletic performance intensified as her running career escalated. She competed in the 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympic Marathon Trials. That is over 12 years of competing at the highest level, which could not have been done without paying special attention to every piece of the puzzle, including proper nutrition, sleep, positive mental health, appropriate training, and recovery.
