Soon after Dexter Petley began writing down his observations of people on the borders of rural Kent and Sussex during the 1960s and 1970s, he realised that his stories were acquiring a broader significance. Dexter Petley was born in the Weald, Kent, in 1955. He is the author of several acclaimed novels, including Little Nineveh, Joyride and White Lies, which was longlisted for the International Dublin Literary Award. He is also a translator and angler of international renown. Since leaving Britain in 1995 he has lived wild all over France, in sheds, barns, tents, caravans and ambulances, writing and fishing along the way. He currently lives in a Normandy forest, where he keeps chickens and grows vegetables, living off rainwater and editing fiction.
