Inside the Criminal Justice Organization: An Anthology for Practitioners features a carefully curated selection of readings that examine criminal justice organizations through the lenses of public safety and business. Designed to provide criminal justice professionals with the skills and knowledge they need to operate safe, efficient, effective and responsive agencies, the book moves away from the abstract, theoretical aspects of criminal justice administration often found in standard texts, and focuses instead on the practical know-how required to successfully manage complex public safety facilities.

The readings are organized into six sections covering organizational theory and structure, organizational deviance, agency collaborations and strategic planning, socialization and motivation, organizational stress, leadership, organizational power, and change. Each section of the anthology includes an original introduction to give the readings context, discussion questions that target comprehension and critical thinking, and an original conclusion that helps clarify themes and connections.

An insightful anthology written and edited by a former practitioner in the field, Inside the Criminal Justice Organization is appropriate for courses in criminal justice administration, and criminal justice leadership and management.

A former Superintendent of Community Corrections for the Suffolk County Sheriff's Department in Boston, Mary Ellen Mastrorilli worked for 24 years in the field of corrections. She then earned a Ph.D. in law, policy, and society at Northeastern University, and is now an associate professor of the practice in the Department of Applied Social Sciences at Boston University Metropolitan College. Dr. Mastrorilli's course offerings include criminal justice policy and planning and criminal justice administration. Her writing has been published in peer-reviewed journals such as The Prison Journal, Federal Probation, and The Journal of Correctional Education. She is the author of Women in Transition, from VDM Publishing.
