This book provides an overview of the essential characteristics and clinical applications of therapeutic proteins against human diseases, including cancers, immune disorders, infections, and other diseases. It presents the latest advancements in protein engineering techniques for producing desirable therapeutic proteins. The book also covers the strategies used to formulate and deliver systemic therapeutic proteins, approved protein therapeutics and their targets, and pharmacogenetic biomarkers. Further, it discusses challenges associated with the clinical implications of therapeutic proteins, including safety, immunogenicity, protein stability, degradation, and efficacy. It illustrates the development of biosimilar antibodies, optimization strategies for producing biobetter antibodies, and presents fundamental concepts about biosuperior therapeutics. Lastly, it includes a discussion about protein-based vaccines against bacterial and viral infections.

Dev Bukhsh Singh is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Siddharth University, Kapilvastu, Siddharth Nagar, India. He also worked as an Assistant Professor at the Department of Biotechnology, Chhatrapati Shahu Ji Maharaj University, Kanpur, India. He received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. degrees from the University of Allahabad, Prayagraj, and his M.Tech. from the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Prayagraj. Holding a PhD in Biotechnology with a specialization in Bioinformatics from Gautam Buddha University, he has been actively involved in teaching and research since 2009, and his focus areas include molecular modelling, chemoinformatics, inhibitor/drug design, and in silico evaluation. He has authored numerous research articles and book chapters in the fields of medicinal research, molecular modelling, drug design, and systems biology. He is a member of various national and international academic bodies and is a reviewer for several internationaljournals. Timir Tripathi is the Regional Director of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Regional Centre Kohima, Nagaland, India. Earlier, he served as Senior Assistant Professor and Principal Investigator at the Department of Biochemistry, North-Eastern Hill University, Shillong, India. He holds a PhD from the Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow, India. He was a visiting faculty at ICGEB, New Delhi, India (2011), and Khon Kaen University, Thailand (2015). He is known for his research in the fields of protein biophysics, biochemistry, structural biology, and drug discovery. He has over 17 years of experience in teaching and research on protein structure, function, and dynamics at the post-graduate and doctoral levels. He has developed and improved methods to investigate and analyze proteins. His research areas include protein interaction dynamics and understanding the roles of non-catalytic domains in regulating the catalytic activity of proteins. He has published over 100 research papers, reviews, commentaries, viewpoints, and editorial articles; has edited four books; and published several book chapters. He currently serves on the editorial boards of the International Journal of Biological Macromolecules, Acta Tropica, Scientific Reports, and PLoS One.
