Provides an update of the status of fungi and advances in conventional and modern molecular tools in identification, taxonomy of fungi, and applications of fungi in agriculture, food development, postharvesting, biological control of crop diseases, biofertilizers, bioremediation, pigments, pharmaceuticals, enzymes, biofuel production, etc.
Taking a multidisciplinary approach, this book focuses on recent milestones in basic and applied mycology, focusing on many and diverse applications in the agricultural, food, and biofuel sectors.

Applied Mycology for Agriculture and Foods: Industrial Applications provides an informative update of the current biological status of fungi and advances in conventional and modern molecular tools in identification, taxonomy of fungi, and applications of different taxonomic groups of fungi in various sectors, such as agriculture, food development, postharvesting, biological control of crop diseases, biofertilizers, bioremediation, pigments, pharmaceuticals, enzymes, biofuel production, etc.

The volume addresses fungal biodiversity conservation, the emerging field of fungal metagenomics, the role of fungi in eco-safety and warfare, and the bioprospecting of fungi for hydrocarbons for biofuel production. Several chapters discuss using fungi in agricultural management, such as for the biocontrol of plant diseases, using entomopathogenic fungi as a pesticide, using nematophagous fungi for controlling nematodes that eat crops, using fungi in the development of biofertilizers, and more. The role of fungi in post-harvest diseases management in horticultural crops is looked at as well.

Key features:

Provides up-to-date information and advances in biological status and classification of fungi
Discusses the comprehensive role of fungi in various sectors, in food and agriculture, in biofuel production, in the production of production of antibiotics or antimicrobial agents, etc.
Presents the recent systemic taxonomic classifications, developments, applications in molecular mycology and conservation strategies for mycoflora

Aiming to bridge the knowledge gap between basic and applied aspects of mycology, this volume provides a wealth of information that will be valuable for researchers, industrial scientists, faculty and students in mycology and plant pathology as well as in botany, microbiology, food microbiology, pharmaceutical development, biotechnology and biofuel production, and other professional disciplines.

Sanjay K. Singh, PhD, is Scientist and In-Charge, Biodiversity and Palaeobiology Group, at the Agharkar Research Institute (ARI), India. With experience of over 25 years in mycology, plant pathology, in vitro culture conservation and applications of fungi, Dr. Singh has been instrumental in establishing the state-of-the-art National Facility for Culture Collection of Fungi, which houses over 5000 indigenous fungal cultures. He has delivered invited lectures, directed extramural and industry-sponsored projects, and guided students for MSc and PhD degrees. A prolific author, he has published many works and organized international and national symposia and conferences. Deepak Kumar, PhD, is Executive Director (R&D) at Nextnode Bioscience Pvt. Ltd., Kadi, Gujarat, India. Previously, he was Director (R&D) and research scientist at the laboratory of Shri Ram Solvent Extractions Pvt. Ltd., Jaspur, Uttarakhand, India. He has published journal articles, books, and book chapters. He has been involved in the production of biofertilizers and biopesticides. He has guided research projects and was a technical consultant for more than a dozen companies for customized technical support. Md. Shamim, PhD, is Assistant Professor cum-Jr.-Scientist in the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetic Engineering at Dr. Kalam Agricultural College, Bihar Agricultural University, Sabour, India. He is the author or coauthor of journal articles, books, book chapters, and conference papers. He is an editorial board member of several journals in his field. Dr Shamim formerly worked at the Indian Agriculture Research Institute, New Delhi, where he was engaged in heat-responsive gene regulation in wheat. Rohit Sharma, PhD, is a Scientist at the National Centre for Microbial Resource at the National Centre for Cell Science, Pune, Maharashtra, India, where he manages more than 15,000 preserved fungal cultures and provides identification services. Presently, he is focusing on the use of fungal cultures in enzyme production, waste management, antimicrobial properties and other applications in industry. He has published more than 40 papers in national and international journals.
