Dr. Gentile obtained his Ph.D. in neurobiology and worked as post-doctoral fellow at the National Institute of Environmental Sciences NIEHS/NIH and at Duke University in which he developed expertise in ion channels. Currently, he is an Assistant professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Illinois in Chicago. Dr. Gentile’s research focus is on the role of ion channels in cancer biology. His research has brought to light new function of potassium channel in several aspects of cancer including proliferation, senescence, metabolism and metastasis. In collaboration with several clinicians, Dr. Gentile and his team are focusing on developing an anticancer pharmacological approach by targeting potassium channels in breast and ovarian cancer.
