What is the difference between a biomechanical and a biointelligent approach to movement and bodywork? To what extent does our approach to movement and interaction with gravity shape our way of being in the world? How do we become active listeners for our body's innate wisdom? In Beyond Core, Wendy LeBlanc-Arbuckle guides us toward new answers for these questions and more. She shows us how we can understand, and activate, an embodied approach to movement and life as the central component of our "becoming" as living beings on this planet.
Drawing on over 40 years of experience, LeBlanc-Arbuckle weaves together principles of yoga, Pilates, Somatics, Structural Integration, myofascial release bodywork and more to reveal the pathways of our bodies' multiple relationships. The authors' Insights from the fields of embryology, Somatics and biotensegrity help us discover our interoceptive nature and our body's fluid, helical, resilient capacities. Here, concepts of core as a muscular center give way to a philosophy of core as a relationship with gravity, our environment, and each other.
The book's chapters include deep-dives into embryology, phenomenology, relational thinking and moving, and embodied breathwork and movement. These explorations demonstrate rich theoretical and practical insight as well as nuances of self-care practices. Rich in current thinking, and in the power of personal story, Beyond Core ultimately invites you, the reader, to explore new layers of personal and professional growth.
