This volume explores the rational behind the NHS Complaints System and outlines the complex systems that it replaces. All of the procedural steps for bringing complaints about healthcare are set out, the success of the system is assessed and the relationship with civil litigation explored.
This book explores the rational behind the NHS Complaints System and outlines the complex systems that it replaces. All of the procedural steps for bringing complaints about healthcare are set out for the benefit of patients and those in need of that information. The success or otherwise of the NHS Complaints System is assessed in the light of recent reports by the NHS Commissioner and the Public Law Project, and possible reforms are explored. The relationship between the NHS Complaints System and civil litigation is evaluated, as is the relationship between complaints and professional discipline, and complaints and risk management. Proposals for introducing compulsory complaints systems in private healthcare are considered.
