Protocols to improve diabetes care in your hospital ward, clinic, or office
This book is an effective guide to improve the metrics (glycemic, lipid, blood pressure) of diabetes care. Using an algorithmic approach, you can improve patient outcomes. Dr. Davidson provides documentation and evidenced-based reasons to meet the glycemic, lipid, and blood pressure goals of the American Diabetes Association and background information for the drugs used to meet those outcome goals. In addition, based on the patient's response, the book describes what therapeutic changes need to be made to provide the most efficient and effective care for patients.
This book provides specific protocols that have been shown to be clinically effective in markedly improving outcomes in people with diabetes.Author Mayer Davidson, M.D., is a well-known and respected researcher and an expert in clinical endocrinology. He is a Professor of Medicine at the UCLA School of Medicine and a Principal Investigator at the Clinical Center for Research Excellence at the Charles Drew University of Medicine and Science (Los Angeles).
Topics include:
Laying the Groundwork (General Background, Glycemia, Lipids, Renal Evaluation, Hypertension, Aspirin, Smoking Cessation, Rationale for Algorithms); Evidence-Based Principles of Dietary Therapy; Glycemia (Goals of Therapy, Principles of Treatment, Non-Insulin Drugs, Metformin, Sulfonylurea Agents and Glinides, Thiazolidinediones; Incretins--Background, Incretin Analogs (Exenatide), Dipeptidyl Peptidase Inhibitors (Sitagliptin), Alpha-Glucosidase Inhibitors, Markedly Symptomatic Type 2 Diabetic Patients. Pramlintide, Self Monitoring of Blood Glucose, Insulin, General Approach, Bedtime Insulin / Daytime Oral Antidiabetes Drugs, Multiple Injections, Premixed Insulins, Delayed Response to NPH Insulin, Correction Doses, Glycemia Algorithm); . Dyslipidemia (Goals of Therapy, Principles of Treatment, Adverse Events, Medications, Dyslipidemia Algorithm); Hypertension, Background (Aldosterone Receptor Antagonists, Alpha-Adrenergic Receptor Atagonists, Alpha-Adrenergic Receptor Agonists, Angiotensin Converting Enzyme Inhibitors, Angiotensin II Receptor Antagonists, Beta-Adrenergic Receptor, Antagonists, Calcium Channel Antagonists, Renin Inhibitors, Thiazide and Loop Diuretics, Vasodilators (Direct), Hypertension Algorithm)
