Now in its third edition, Woods and West’s The Psychology of Work and Organizations provides students with a complete introduction to how psychology can help us to better understand the world of work and to change it for the better. Work psychology has the potential to help people be more productive and prosperous in their jobs, to derive joy from work, flourish rather than languish as a result of their work lives, and to ensure the effectiveness and adaptability of work organizations. Ensuring organizations support environmental concerns, enable positive approaches to equality, diversity and inclusion, and achieve the benefits of new technologies are key themes of this new edition. The authors address these issues with an engaging, optimistic and very accessible approach.

Michael West is Professor of Organizational Psychology at Lancaster University Management School, Visiting Professor at University College Dublin and Emeritus Professor at Aston University. He is Senior Visiting Fellow at The King’s Fund. He graduated from the University of Wales in 1973 and received his PhD on the psychology of meditation in 1977. He has authored, edited or co-edited 20 books and has published over 200 articles for scientific and practitioner publications, as well as chapters in scholarly books. He is a Fellow of the British Psychological Society, the American Psychological Association (APA), the APA Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychology, the International Association of Applied Psychologists, the British Academy of Management, a Chartered Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development and Academician of the Academy of Social Sciences. He focuses on how to develop the conditions for organizations and people to thrive at work through research into team working, organizational culture, leadership and effectiveness, particularly in relation to the organization of health services. He advises governments and organizations on developing health service cultures of high quality and compassionate care and speaks to a wide range of audiences on these topics nationally and internationally. Steve A. Woods is Professor of HRM and Organizational Behaviour at the University of Liverpool Management School, and a Registered Practitioner Occupational Psychologist. He graduated in Occupational Psychology from the University of Nottingham in 2001 and received his PhD in 2004. His research and professional practice are most notably in the area of personality at work, focusing on psychometric and personality trait assessment, and personality development and change at work. He also conducts research on the ways that recruitment and selection in organizations can be made fair and effective, diversity management, workplace coaching, and well-being. He has published more than 50 scientific and professional articles, scholarly books and chapters. He speaks regularly at international conferences, organizations and universities about personality and work, and contemporary issues in Work and Organizational Psychology more widely.
