This book presents an innovative approach to assessing and treating ADHD in the family context. Readers learn strategies for diagnosing the disorder and evaluating its impact not only on affected young persons but also on their parents and siblings. Also addressed are the neurobiological underpinnings of ADHD, and clinical issues that arise when a parent also shows signs of the disorder. From expert family therapists, the volume outlines how professionals can help families mobilize their resources to manage ADHD symptoms; enhance parent-child and marital relationships; improve functioning in school and work settings; and develop more effective coping strategies. Session-by-session intervention plans for clients at different developmental stages are accompanied by a wealth of illustrative case material.
