This book provides graduate students and new entrepreneurs with a variety of organizational effectiveness factors that contribute to an organization's competitive advantage, as well as its present and future success and survival. It offers leaders and employees with common understandings on how organizations work and helps them focus on efficiency rather than immediate actions based on random advice. Featuring short, accessible chapters that offer a "quick read" on important topics, this book is designed to serve as self-study reference for aspiring and current organizational leaders as well as a supplementary text for academic coursework.
Dr. Robert S. Fleming holds a joint appointment at Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey, as a professor of management in the Rohrer College of Business where he previously served as dean, and as a professor of crisis and emergency management within the Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Management Program. During his more than forty years as a management educator, practitioner, and consultant he has served as a faculty member at numerous colleges and universities. In addition to a doctorate in Higher Education Administration from Temple University, he has five earned master's degrees, including a Master of Governmental Administration from the Fels Center of Government of the University of Pennsylvania. The primary focus of his teaching, research, consulting, and other professional activities has been on enhancing organizational effectiveness and resilience, with an emphasis on contemporary businesses, non-profits, educational, public safety, and governmental entities. He is a prolific author, having published numerous books and articles on organizational resilience, strategic management, and business continuity.
Dr. Michelle Kowalsky is a business information specialist. She has served students and faculty in secondary and higher education, most recently at Rowan University in New Jersey and Delaware County Community College in Pennsylvania. Her clients include employees in corporate settings, small business owners and operators, and members of the public through her work in academic, corporate, and public libraries. She holds a doctorate in Education from Pepperdine University and a Master of Business Administration from Rowan University, among other degrees. For over thirty years, she has taught critical thinking and advanced searching at all levels, most recently focusing on workplace skill development and support of entrepreneurs, helping students and business professionals conduct business research. She has collaborated with Dr. Fleming on numerous projects including Survival Skills for Thesis and Dissertation Candidates published within the Springer Texts in Education Series.
