M K Jayaraj is the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calicut, Kerala, India. He was a Professor in the Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, India, and was also the founding Director of the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Materials, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, India. His specialization and research focus is in the area of optoelectronic materials and devices. His research expertise and interests include thin film and nanocomposite devices including sensors/detectors, especially transparent flexible electronic devices like thin-film transistors, polycrystalline and domain matched epitaxial ferroelectric thin films devices, resistive switching devices, solar cells, batteries, and supercapacitors, luminescent nanomaterials for bioimaging applications, and Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering (SERS).
Dr. Aldrin Antony is an Associate Professor at the Department of Physics, and the Honorary Director of the Centre of Excellence in Advanced Materials at Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT). He received his M.Sc. degree in Physics in 1996 and Ph.D. from CUSAT in 2005. He was a post-doctoral fellow at ENEA, Italy; and also worked as a research scientist at the Grup d' Energia Solar of the University of Barcelona, Spain (2006 to 2012). Dr. Antony was the distinguished 'National Solar Science Fellow' of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Govt. of India. He was a senior scientist at the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay from 2012 to 2019. He has over 20 years of research experience in materials science and solar cells.
Subha P P is a Post-doctoral research fellow at the Department of Physics, Cochin University of Science and Technology, Kochi, India. She received her Ph.D. from CUSAT in 2018. Her research areas of interest are gas sensors based on metal oxide semiconductor nanostructures and two-dimensional materials, colorimetric sensors based on gold nanoparticles, metal oxide gas sensors for breath analysis, upconversion phosphors, and luminescent nanomaterials.
This book covers recent technologies developed for energy harvesting as well as energy storage applications. The book includes the fabrication of optoelectronic devices such as high-efficiency c-Si solar cells, carrier selective c-Si solar cells, quantum dot, and dye-sensitized solar cells, perovskite solar cells, Li-ion batteries, and supercapacitors. Aiming at beginners in the respective areas, the basic principles and mechanism of the optoelectronic phenomena behind every application are detailed in the book. The book offers schematics, tables, graphical representations, and illustrations to enable better understanding. Among the nine chapters, the first four chapters are dedicated to various types of high-efficiency solar cells and the remaining chapters discuss the methods for energy storage such as the fabrication of batteries and supercapacitors. The book is a useful reference for active researchers and academicians working in energy harvesting and energy storage areas.
