Ivica Smokovski, MD, PhD is a certified Fellow (Sub-specialist) in Endocrinology, certified Specialist in Internal Medicine at University Clinic of Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Disorders Skopje, and Associate Professor at Faculty of Medical Sciences, University Goce Delcev Stip. He has extensive experience in diabetes care from various perspectives and positions: as a clinician at University Clinic, as a Medical Adviser in pharmaceutical industry, and serving as a Medical Adviser for Diabetes Care to the Minister of Health for 4 years. He has been instrumental in instituting, and serving as a member, of the first National Diabetes Committee, a body for creating National Diabetes Policies, National Diabetes Care Guidelines, and monitoring of implementation of policies and guidelines. He has also been instrumental in forming of National e-Health System related to Diabetes Care in 2015, covering total population of the country across all three healthcare levels (primary, secondary, tertiary). Prof Smokovski has published the State-of-the-Art article on Diabetes Care in Republic of Macedonia: Challenges and Opportunities, first comprehensive overview of the situation with diabetes in N Macedonia, estimated to have the second highest diabetes prevalence in Europe. In addition, he recently published the article on First stratified diabetes prevalence data for Republic of Macedonia derived from the National eHealth System, the first comprehensive diabetes data derived from the National e-Health System. He has been invited to lecture at numerous domestic and international diabetes medical events.
