This annual publication examines all rules, statutes and regulations governing costs, together with examples of their implementation and consequences. The 2000 edition has been rewritten to cover the changes to contentious costs, conditional fee agreements and civil legal aid agreements as enacted by the Civil Procedure Rules and now takes account of the Access to Justice Act 1999 and a large number of new cases in areas from charging rates for time wasted to wasted costs orders. The charging of clients is an intricate and technical question fraught with difficulties, but this work seeks both to inform those who know little about costs and to broaden the knowledge of those who have previous experience within the field. Over 300 illustrative examples, many of them new to this edition, are provided to help the practitioner understand the relevant issues and commentary.
