Written in memory of Peter Berck, Professor of Agricultural and Resource Economics at the University of California, Berkeley, the chapters expand upon his insights about the connections between human activities and the natural world.
The volume includes a selection of research on agriculture, energy, forestry, fisheries, land use, recycling, and conservation - all parts of the broad question of how natural resources can meet human needs while avoiding environmental degradation. Written from a 21st century perspective, with concerns about climate, renewable energy, biodiversity, and sustainable development, this volume will be of interest to researchers and students of agricultural and resource economics.
David Zilberman is Wolf Prize Laureate, Professor and Robinson Chair of the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics at University of California, Berkeley. He is the co-founder and co-director of the BEAHRS Environmental Leadership Program (ELP), and is the director of the Master of Development Practice (MDP). David is a fellow of the American Agricultural Economics Association and the Association of Environmental and Resource Economists. He has published in various fields on the economics of agriculture, environment, technology, and risk and is an editor of the Springer book series Natural Resource Management and Policy. David completed his B.A. in Economics and Statistics from Tel Aviv University in Israel and his PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from U.C. Berkeley.
