Globally, over two thirds of soils are affected by physical, chemical, or biological soil constraints. These constraints cause significant yield loss, and, as such, identifying appropriate management strategies is crucial to ensure future world food production. In order to help agricultural researchers and practitioners better understand soil constraint management, this book comprehensively outlines the occurrence of the major soil constraints and the most appropriate strategies to manage these for sustainable food production. Importantly, it brings together experts from major agricultural regions globally to highlight approaches with the most success in different environmental and socioeconomic regions worldwide.

Dr Yash Dang is a Senior Research Fellow at the University of Queensland, Australia, with extensive experience in soil and nutrient management in agricultural systems. He has significant research expertise in soil constraint management, as well as crop production in no-till farming systems, strategic tillage, and sustainable land management practices.Professor Neal Menzies works at the University of Queensland, Australia, and has used his role as a research leader and a teacher to inspire the next generation of researchers and practitioners to enter this highly rewarding field. While his research spans a range of agricultural and environmental chemistry issues, he considers himself primarily a soil scientist, and sees soil science as a central discipline in the development of sustainable intensification for agricultural production.Professor Ram Dalal works at the University of Queensland, Australia, and has contributed significantly to creating awareness in the farming, scientific and general community to the seriousness and insidious nature of soil degradation and the importance of farming systems to help increase agricultural sustainability. He has helped develop and implement restorative practices for sustainable land management, both nationally and internationally.
