Bert McCarty, PhD, is a Professor of Plant and Environmental Sciences and Certified Professional Agronomist specializing in turfgrass science and management at Clemson University, USA, having previously served as a faculty member at the University of Florida, and North Carolina State University. He is the author and co-author of 13 books related to weed identification and control, sports field management, golf course management, sod production, and turfgrass and agricultural chemistry, and soil physics. He is a Fellow of the Crop Science Society of America and the American Society of Agronomy, and recipient of the Fred Grau Turfgrass award recognizing the top national and international turfgrass scientist. His research focuses on weed management, plant growth regulatory (PGR) use, and environmental stress physiology issues affecting turfgrass managers.Philip J. Brown, PhD, is an Extension Specialist in Soil Science and Septic System Education within the School of Plant and Environmental Sciences at Virginia Polytechnic Institute, USA. He obtained a MS and PhD in Soil Physics and Turfgrass Science in the Plant and Environmental Science Department at Clemson University, USA, where he studied, among other things, soil compaction relief on heavily trafficked sports fields and the dynamics of water movement in porous media in relation to sports fields. He also has been a Lecturer at Bishop Burton College, UK, and he is an active member of several professional societies.
