The Law of Agriculture and Farming covers many issues including those relating to property, animal identification/transport, etc. in Ireland. It includes new legislation and gives guidance in areas close to the heart of most farmers: succession, occupier’s liability and European legislation.

Agriculture is a multi-billion euro industry in Ireland. Important new legislation was introduced in Ireland in 2014 regarding animal health and welfare and a new scheme is being introduced bringing in a system of single payments for farmers.

Covers the following: Forestry; EU Law and Farming/Agriculture; New Developments in Europe; Compulsory Purchase Orders; Occupiers Liability; Boundaries, Walls and Fences; Animal Health and Welfare (including 2013 Act); Rights of Way and Adverse Possession; Animal Identification (cattle, horses, sheep, pigs, goats, control of Dogs Acts, stray animals); Marts and the Transportation of Animals; Succession. Appendices: Occupiers Liability Act 1995; Succession Act 1965; Land and Conveyancing Law Reform Act 2009; Civil Partnership and Certain Rights and Obligations of Co – Habitants Act 2010; Animal Welfare Act 2013.

Michael Ronayne is a barrister practising in Dublin and on the Western Circuit. He is a former ministerial advisor and has also worked as Economics Correspondent with RTÉ. Áine Boyle is a general practice barrister on the Western Circuit with an interest in agricultural law. She also has a keen personal interest in farming and runs a beef suckler herd on her family farm. Edward S. Walsh was called to the Bar in 1979, and the Inner Bar in 1997. He has always had an interest in farming, both in his practice as a barrister and his hands-on involvement in livestock management and breeding. He is a member of the Irish Charolais Cattle Society.
