Opening chapters provide students with a survey of vertebrates, homeostasis, organic compounds, cell structure, and more. Additional chapters cover the role of tissues in body organization, the integumentary system, the skeletal system, and joints. Students learn about muscles and the muscular system, muscle cells and physiology, and the nervous system. Special senses and sense organs are examined. All major systems are discussed, including the nervous, cardiovascular, immune, digestive, respiratory, urinary, and reproductive systems. Throughout, the in-text material is supported by essays that demonstrate the application of student knowledge to real-world veterinary practice.
Vertebrate Anatomy and Physiology for Veterinary Technician Students is a robust, all-inclusive, and essential resource for courses and programs in veterinary and zoological science.

Boris Zakharov is an associate professor of biology in the Natural Sciences Department at LaGuardia Community College (City University of New York), where he teaches courses in Human Anatomy and Physiology and Vertebrate Anatomy and Physiology. He holds a Ph.D. in entomology from the Novosibirsk Biological Institute. Dr. Zakharov's current research studies the dynamics of terrestrial invertebrates in the Black Rock Forest Reserve, the systematics, taxonomy, and biogeography of Australasian ground spiders, and the morphology of reproductive and sensory organs of ground spiders. He is the author of Nomosystematics: A Closer Look at the Theoretical Foundation of Biological Classification.
