Dr June McNicholas graduated from Warwick University in 1991 with a degree in Psychology. As a result of her undergraduate projects in companion animal studies she was appointed as a Research Fellow on a project investigating the issue of pet ownership for people in residential care, funded by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. This research into the effects on the aged of having to relinquish their animals when going into residential care played a large part in the subsequent move to overhaul residential care legislation. June has devoted most of her time to researching aspects of human/animal psychology as well as investigating the role of pets as providers of social support. She has a research contract with Waltham but complete academic freedom. She also runsa Ferret sanctuary, and is involved with the National Ferret Welfare Association as well as Dogs for the Disabled and other human/animal projects.
