The Institute of Poultry Diseases at the Free University Berlin, Germany, in cooperation with the German branch of the World Veterinary Poultry Association held the 12th International Symposium on Turkey Diseases in Berlin, Germany, from May 31st .2nd June 2018.
The symposium was organized to stimulate the exchange of current information related to turkey diseases and to help focus attention on specific problems and encourage new approaches to solve them.
At the symposium 39 oral presentations in eight main sections were given. The first two sections with 12 papers were devoted to topics related to turkey production, problem related to rearing and health as well as the problem of antimicrobial resistance. This was followed by a section, which covered aspects of turkey health issues and several bacterial diseases (6 papers). Sections 4 with 5 papers addressed to some bacterial diseases as well as to avian tumour viruses. The fifth section (7 papers) dealt with parasitic diseases, with especial attention to Histomonosis and Coccidiosis. Section 6 with 3 presentations cover round heart disease, Clostridium as well Chlamydia infections in turkeys. In the final two sections with 6 papers were dedicated to Avian Influenza, Biosecurity and case report about rickets.
138 scientists and experts from 22 countries (Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Egypt, Finland, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Mexico, Morocco, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Spain, Switzerland, Tunisia, The Netherlands, Turkey, United Kingdom and United States of America) attended the symposium.
It is my sincere pleasure to acknowledge all the speakers for their co-operation and willingness to share their expertise with the global turkey family. Last but not least, I would like to express my gratitude to all individuals who worked in the planning and co-ordination of this event, especially the staff of the Institute of Poultry Diseases at the Free University Berlin. I hope that the information presented in these proceedings will become a valuable reference for all participants and attendees.
The next 13th “Hafez” - International Symposium on Turkey Diseases will be held in Berlin Germany in 6th -8th June 2019. I hope to see you in Berlin.
