The principal objective of writing the book, ';Veterinary Medical Virology' is to make the readers aware of different aspects of the virology especially to the students of veterinary virology, medicine, pathology, medicos, veterinary practioners, teachers of the subject and students of other biological sciences, in simple, concise and informative language. The salient features of the book are: The incorporation of latest information on virology especially the latest taxonomy of viruses as per ICTV guidelines. Description of all new emerging viral diseases, and up-to-date details on all important viral diseases in animals, birds and humans. In case of pathogenic viruses, presentation of a summary description in tabular form of order, family, genus, virus species/serotypes/subtypes and diseases caused in humans and animals by the member viruses in case of each virus family. The topic on control of viral diseases covers all available viral vaccines, vaccination policy in all animals and poultry with details on vaccine dose, booster dose, route of administration, schedule of vaccination i.e. half annual, annual, biannual, triennial or otherwise. Such information would greatly benefit the veterinarians in preventing viral disease that are not responsive to general antibiotics. If the readers detect some defects/errors in the book, I request them to convey the same to the author so that these may be corrected in the next edition.

Autor

Dr. Chandra Bhushan Prasad, the author of the book, Veterinary Medical Virology was born in a village, Tope in Patna district on 6.7. 1938. He graduated (B. V. Sc. & A. H) from Bihar Veterinary College, Patna in 1960, & did M. V. Sc (Microbiology) from Mathura Veterinary College, UP in 1965. He obtained his Ph. D. degree in Virology in 1974 from Division of Virology, Central Drug Research Institute, Lucknow. He got FAO Fellowship & completed his FRVCS degree in 1972 from Royal Veterinary College, Stockholm (Sweden) under Dr Rubarth, the imminent pathologist. He pursued his research work at the National Institute of Bacteriology, Stockholm (Sweden) related to his dissertation research work in virology. He visited various Institutions in Sweden, Denmark, Helsinki (Finland), Norway & UK related to his research work. Under WHO/NICD training programme, he worked at NICD, Delhi in 1982. He headed the dept of Veterinary Microbiology from 1974 to 1998 in the capacity of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor & University Professor cum Chief Scientist & Chairman. He was the Incharge of AICRP on Epidemiology of Foot-and-Mouth Disease, Patna Unit from 1978 to 1985 & visited all FMD Centers in India & participated in the deliberations of the Workshop on the Project. After his retirement in 1998, he taught Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Molecular Biology & Immunology at B. V. C., Patna, Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Dairy Technology, Patna & at Science College, Patna, the premiere college of Patna University at M. Sc. level. He was the subject matter expert of Bihar Public Service Commission, Bihar, Patna for the selection of Veterinary Officers & was the expert for selection of Professor at IVRI, Izatnagar, Agricultural University, Pantnagar & Central Agriculture University, Aizawl. He was the member of Management Board of ICAR Society for framing ICAR policy for four years. He is the life member of Infectious Diseases & Microbiologists of India & was on the Editorial Board of Indian Journal of Virology & other journals. He is credited with publication of more than 50 research papers & Lectures series in Veterinary Virology, Bacteriology, Immunology & Mycology.
