Over the past 20 years, the care of British and European wildlife casualties and orphans has become accepted as the norm, whereas before euthanasia was the recommended option. The care of injured wildlife brought into veterinary practices can cause problems because of lack of knowledge. Wildlife casualties present an enormous range of species and conditions not normally seen in veterinary practice. When a wildlife casualty is brought in it is the veterinary nurses who administer first aid and lifesaving and carry out any minor surgical procedures. This user friendly book describes how to handle and provide first aid, how to feed and release, and many other disciplines not featured in veterinary or nursing training. It covers a whole range of species with sections on birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians.
Les Stocker MBE is Founder of St Tiggywinkles Wildlife Teaching Hospital Trust, Europe's first wildlife teaching hospital. In 1990 he became a Laureate on winning the Rolex Award Enterprise.
