Professor Zodwa Dlamini is the Scientific Director of the SAMRC/UP Precision Prevention & Novel Drug Targets for HIV-Associated Cancers (PPNDTHAC) Extramural Unit. She is the Inaugural Scientific Director of the Pan African Cancer Research Institute (PACRI) at the University of Pretoria. An Honorary Professor at the University of the Witwatesrand, School of Clinical Medicine and C2 NRF rated. She is the recipient of the SA-MRC Silver Award, as an outstanding South African Scientist who has contributed to raising the profile of Science in South Africa. She is a distinguished member of the Council for Scientific Advisers of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), elected member of the Academy of Science of South Africa (ASSAf) for significant achievement in the pursuit, advancement or application of science. An overseas Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine, she is a professor in a highly specialised area of molecular oncology/translational oncogenomics and has been recognized internationally, evidenced by; invitations to chair and give keynote lectures at international conferences; an appointment as a visiting Professor by the University of Bristol, UK. She was awarded the AACR-NCI International Investigator Opportunity Grant, Royal Society Fellowship and Oppenheimer Trust for her sabbatical leave on splicing regulation at the University of Bristol. She serves on the Academy of Science of South Africa member of the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) Education Standing Committee and was invited to be on the ASSAf Consensus Panel to peer review journals in Mathematics and Science. She was appointed by the Ministry of Higher Education and Training to serve on the Department’s Research Outputs Main Evaluation Panel.
