Biomedical and Clinical Cryogenics: Theory, Current Technology Advances, and Future Perspectives presents the complexity of cryogenic engineering applications in both medical and clinical settings. The book demonstrates both a comprehensive and up-to-date understanding of the ongoing new applications and their cutting-edge breakthroughs within the biomedical engineering sector. It contributes to the rapidly emerging and expanding field of cryogenics by emphasizing the complexity of associated mechanisms and interactions. In six chapters, this book collects, investigates, and critically discusses the state-of-the-art cryogenic practices, along with the challenges and perspectives of the most common applications. It not only provides an insight into the origins and evolution of cryogenics, but also presents the biomedical engineering applications of cryogenics like cryosurgery, cryotherapy, and cryopreservation. By using cryogenics sciences, new milestones in medicine and human-life expectancy can be significantly increased. Since this is highly interdisciplinary content, this book is a valuable resource for biomedical engineers, health professionals, scientists and researchers, students, and all those who wish to broaden their knowledge in the allied field.

Prof. Jouhara is Professor of Thermal Engineering and Director of Research at the College of Engineering at Brunel University London, Chief Researcher in Vytautas Magnus University and Visiting Professor at City, the University of London. He is also Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Thermofluids, Executive Editor of Thermal Science and Engineering Progress and Associate Editor of the International Journal of Heat and Mass Transfer. Prof. Jouhara is Fellow and Chartered Engineer in both the UK (FIMechE) and Ireland (Engineers Ireland - FIEI), Fellow of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineering (FCIBSE), and Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), UK. He is Technical Director of Econotherm (UK) Limited, a world-leading British heat pipe heat exchangers manufacturing company, and has an extensive background in experimental heat transfer and fluid dynamics including the design and commissioning of several thermal-fluids experimental test facilities. Jon has been working in the industrial gas business for over 35 years, with almost all of his career focused on low temperature cryogenic applications. He obtained his degree in Mechanical Engineering and Production Engineering from Kingston University and joined Air Products UK in 1993 as a research engineer, and quickly progressed within the company’s Technology organisation. His expertise are in applied cryogenics in various applications.
