This book will cover basics to recent protocols for drug discovery from actinobacteria. It will be helpful for the pharmaceutical industries and researchers to develop new antibiotics from actinobacteria and would be used in support of future research in drug discovery.
Many of the natural products have been isolated and characterized from the actinobacteria, for example polyketides, phenazines, peptides, indolocarbarbazoles, and sterols. To explore new antibiotics from actinobacteria, several bioinformatics and synthetic biology tools were developed. This book covers basics to recent protocols for drug discovery from actinobacteria.

Features:

1. Discusses the benefits of production of antibiotics and enzymes from actinomycetes in a large scale.
2. Covers the synthetic biology approach.
3. Describes the strain improvement of actinobacteria.
4. Gives information on basic isolation of actinobacteria and modern techniques.
5. Covers the applications and metabolic engineering strategies of actinomycetes.

This book will be helpful for the pharmaceutical industries and researchers to develop new antibiotics from actinobacteria and can be used in support of future research in drug discovery.

L. Karthik has an extensive expertise in Actinobacteria, Synthetic biology and Drug Discovery Strategies and is presently working as a Project Leader, Synthetic Biology at Salem Microbes Pvt. Ltd, Salem, India. He is Top 2% of all scientists in the world (the Stanford University report published by Elsevier on 10th October 2022&2023). He is an elected Fellow member of Linnean Society of London. He did first postdoctoral training at the Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China under the guidance of eminent scientist Prof. Zhiyong Li. Further he has completed his second postdoctoral fellowship in ECUST, Shanghai, China under the guidance of eminent scientist Prof. Lixin Zhang. He received his Ph.D. degree in Microbiology from the VIT University in 2013. He has published around 75 research papers (h index-26), 5 Books and 6 patents and 6 products commercialized. He is a communication committee member of International Chemical Biology Society, USA and President of Society of Chemical and Synthetic biology, India. In 2016, he got Prestigious “Young Scientist Award” from Indian Association of Applied Microbiologists for his outstanding research work. and got Best Research scholar award-2012 from VIT University. He got 200 young scientist-2012 fellowship (DST) to attend international conference. He got Best VIT ALUMNI AWARD-2022 from VIT University, TN, India. He is Associate Editor of Frontiers in Microbiology and Review editor of Frontiers in Marine Science and also Associate Editor of Current Chinese Engineering Science Journal (Bentham Science). Recently, he proved COVID-19 activity of Kabasura Kudineer (Siddha Herbal formulation). During COVID-19 wave, this drug saved lot of life. For this contribution, he got COVID warrior award from SEED Trust, TN, India.
