This work focuses on self-assessment in the various and numerous circumstances of clinical and research activities concerning hearing loss and related dysfunctions. Topics covered include: theoretical issues; hearing aid use; tinnitus; and professional and client interests.
This text explores self-assessment in the various and numerous circumstances of clinical and research activities concerning hearing loss and related dysfunctions. It evolved from a review of the literature on self-assessment of hearing prepared by the author for the International Collegium of Rehabilitative Audiology (ICRA), under the auspices of its Working Group on Self-Assessment Methodology. The book examines matters of theoretical debate relevant to the self-assessment approach overall, it looks at technical points from the world of psychometrics and considers the motive for using self-assessment. Principle self-assessment devices concerning hearing impairment are discussed, along with an analysis of data using one particular scale derived from a varied set of backgrounds. Different domains of self-assessment and their applications are also explored with accompanying text providing critiques of the issues most relevant to the field of self-assessment in question. Also assessed are concepts of disability and handicap.
