This heavily revised second edition comprehensively examines the causes and effects of obesity, both on the human body as well as society as a whole. The significance obesity plays in the development of a variety of lethal and non-lethal diseases is discussed, and the prevention and treatment of obesity are looked at in detail. Treatment strategies such as bariatric surgical techniques and descriptions of how to apply the latest assessment technologies are provided for obese adult and pediatric patients. A new section to this edition covers the impact of COVID-19 on obese patients and how it can create extra complications.

Obesity: Clinical, Surgical and Practical Guide describes how to best treat and manage individuals with obesity utilizing the latest methodologies. Furthermore, it brings together a large number of international specialists in their field, making it a valuable resource for gastroenterologists, surgeons, researchers, dieticians, physicians, and healthcare providers.

Shamin Iqbal Ahmad obtained his BSc from TNB College, Bhagalpur, MSc in Botany from Patna University, India and his PhD in Molecular Genetics from Leicester University, UK. After 35 years' service as Senior Lecturer and a further 13 years lecturing, he left Nottingham Trent University in 2020.

His research on different areas of molecular biology/genetics extended across more than 30 years with the key area of his research being on DNA damage and repair which resulted in discovery of production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) by near UV light of a number of biological and chemical agents and their implications on human health. Other areas of research included thymineless death in bacteria, genetic control of nucleotide catabolism, development of anti-AIDs drugs, control of microbial infection of burns, phages of thermophilic bacteria, and microbial flora after the Chernobyl disaster. He collaborated with the University of Osaka, Japan, and discovered that a number of biologically produced enzymes were able to scavenge ROS. In 2020 he published a paper in the journal, Medical Hypothesis proposing a novel treatment for COVID-19, and in 2021 published about another modified treatment for RNA viruses in his book on Human Viruses, diseases treatment and vaccines.

In 2003 he received a prestigious "Asian Jewel Award" in Britain for "Excellence in Education".
