This book provides an introduction to next-generation applications and technologies for improving diagnostic accuracy and prediction of treatment outcomes in dentistry through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML). The authors attempt to bridge the gap between dental research and global health outcomes, as well as provide a comprehensive guide to general and clinical aspects of dental and oral health issues and the etiology, prevalence, assessment, and management of these conditions. This book combines engineering applications and medical healthcare and will be an important reference for researchers, biomedical engineers, dental students, and dental practitioners.

Khalid Shaikh is a serial entrepreneur, a technocrat, and a business strategist based in Dubai, UAE. He is the founder and CEO of Prognica Labs, an artificial intelligence-powered health-tech startup, IntelliDent AI, a dental AI company, and Affaan Technologies, an AI consulting and development company. He has received numerous awards for his innovations in healthcare.

He is a computer engineer and has a solid record of more than 20 years of high-level performance in the healthcare and finance industries. In addition to his professional commitments, he also gives back to the aspiring entrepreneur community by serving as an advisor and mentor.

Dr. Hesham Fathi Ahmed Marei, Dean of College of Dentistry at Gulf Medical University, is a Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. He graduated at Cairo University in 1997, and then received his Master and Doctoral Degrees in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery from Suez Canal University, Egypt. Prof. Marei has completed his clinical oral and maxillofacial surgery training at Cardiff Dental School, UK and obtained his Fellowship in Dental Surgery in 2006 from the Royal College of Surgeons in London. Obtained another Master's Degree in Medical Education in 2012 and a PhD in the Health Professions Education in 2018 at Maastricht University, the Netherlands.

In research, Prof. Marei has over 35 publications in internationally recognized journal and his research focus is on the applications of 3D printing technology in dentistry, the effect of chemotherapy on bone healing, osseointegration of dental implants, use of virtual patients in dental education and medical professionalism. Prof. Marei has actively contributed with presentations, workshops and courses in both specialties at several national and international events in Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, UAE, Pakistan, the Netherlands, UK and USA.

Dr. Walid Shaaban Moustafa Elsayed, Associate Dean of Academics at Gulf Medical University, was awarded his bachelor's degree in dental medicine and Surgery from the Faculty of Dentistry, Cairo University, Egypt, in 1996. He completed the master's degree in Oral Biology and Oral Pathology at Suez Canal University on 2004. Dr. Walid has been awarded his PhD thesis at 2011 from Leeds University (UK). This period of research training has successfully focused on the identification of new genes important for enamel biomineralization and characterization of the Ultrastructural enamel defects. Dr. Walid`s big achievement was discovering mutations in WDR72 gene that disrupt enamel formation and result in hypomaturation Amelogenesis Imperfecta (AI). This was reported in the American Journal of Human Genetics and opened a new area of research in biomineralization. In addition to that, he contributed to the discovery of CNNM4, GPR68 and C4orf26 genes as the cause for amelogenesis imperfecta, which were reported in the American Journal of Human Genetics.

Dr. Walid is working now in the field of the cancer and hypoxia interested in genetic heterogeneity induced by hypoxia and its implications in tumor immunogenicity and immune evasion strategies adapted by cancer cells

Dr. Dusan Surdilovic, Chairperson of Preventive Dental Science Department at Gulf Medical University, is Associate Professor, Chairperson of Department of Preventive Dental Science at Gulf Medical University, UAE from 2015. He served as Assistant Professor at College of Dentistry, University of Nis, Serbia, Europe, for 15 years, providing teaching, clinical training and examining in pediatric dentistry, restorative dentistry and oral surgery and medicine Dentistry.
