New Generation SAR for Earth Environment Observation discusses three aspects of new generation SAR remote sensing, including (1) The latest research status and development trends, the basic theories, and methods of new generation SAR, (2) The new or original concepts, methods and typical applications of new generation SAR information processing and parameter inversion, and (3) A new idea of SAR information integration processing and environmental parameter inversion technique which represents a new SAR science application mode that has the capability to improve the SAR remote-sensing quantitative application level and promote the development of new theories and methodologies.

Prof. Guo Huadong has been engaged in radar remote sensing since the 1970s’. He systematically revealed the interaction mechanism between SAR electromagnetic wave and typical ground objects, established a geometric model of SAR scattering from sand dunes without vegetation, revealed the depolarization mechanism of lava and multi-polarization response of vegetation, and confirmed the penetration of long wave SAR to dry sand. A multi-source remote sensing prospecting theory and model has been established, an all-weather and active and passive remote sensing observation system for major earthquake disasters has been established, and the concept of global change science satellite and moon-based observation has been put forward. Organized the construction of a new earth observation system, completed the land remote sensing application system of Shenzhou Spacecraft, and created China's first digital Earth prototype system. Prof. Guo was awarded the principal investigator of international SAR remote sensing programs including SIR-C/X-SAR, JERS-1 SAR, ERS-1/2 SAR, Radarsat-1/2, Envisat, SRTM, and ALOS ones. He was a member of International SAR Working Group, Chairman of Technical Committee of RICESAT of Asia Remote Sensing Association. In recent 10 years, Prof. Guo has led three national projects focus on new generation SAR for Earth observation. Professor/Doctoral Supervisor, Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences. His research interests include advanced SAR remote sensing, polar environment remote sensing and ecological environment remote sensing. He has presided over and participated in more than 10 projects such as national 973, 863, NSFC and SPRP projects of CAS. He is the vice chairman of Digital Polar Specialist Committee of CNISDE, Co-chairman of Environmental Change Working Group of DBAR International Science Program, the member of China-EU Expert Committee on Land and Soil, and the vice chairman of CARSA eco-meteorological Remote Sensing Committee. A total of 102 papers were published in SCI/EI. In recent 5 years, 32 SCI papers have been published, among which 1 paper was included as ESI highly cited paper. He has co-authored 4 books including Global Change Science Satellite, Cryosphere Remote Sensing, Remote Sensing Time Series: Revealing land Surface Dynamics and advanced SAR Earth Environment Observation. Dr Fu is Associate Professor, received the M.S. degree in geographic information system from the Hefei University of Technology, Hefei, China, in 2004 and the Ph.D. degree in SAR remote sensing from Nanjing University, Nanjing, China, in 2007. He is currently an Associate Professor with the Aerospace Information Research Institute, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing, China. His research interests include radar interferometry for ground deformation retrieval and polarimetric SAR interferometry for forest parameter inversion. He has published more than 30 journal papers and 2 books.
