lt;p>The book covers an overview of fungal polymers, fungal mycelial biomass, and their applications besides providing a detailed account of various opportunities. This book also includes information on developments in mycotechnology related to fashion, furnishing, construction, packaging, mycelial-based bricks, construction binder, cementing materials, and so on. Other aspects include the value of chitin, chitosan, hydrophobins, lignocellulosic composites, oil recovery, biosurfactants and bioemulsifiers, nanofibers from pullulan, exopolymeric substances, bioresins, and biocomposites. Additional topics covered in the book include self-healing fungal concrete (which could help to build repairs) and recipe to inhibit fruit body formation, for living fungal biomaterial manufacture. There is no comprehensive book other than - some reviews, which addressed very brief historical developments and preliminary aspects of fungal biopolymers. Written by experts in their field from countries like Australia, India, USA, Germany, Turkey, Philippines, Oman, Belgium, Italy, Egypt, Brazil, and the United Kingdom, the chapters discuss at length applications of filamentous fungi in sustainable industrial pursuits and industrial developments with environmental safety. This book will be useful for students, teachers, researchers, and scientists in botany, microbiology, life sciences, biotechnology, agriculture and, industries that extensively use fungi for the production of value-added products.

Sunil Kumar Deshmukh received his Ph.D. in Mycology from Dr. H.S. Gour University, Sagar (M.P.) in 1983. Veteran industrial mycologist who spent a substantial part of his career at Hoechst Marion Roussel Limited [now Sanofi India Ltd.], Mumbai, and Piramal Enterprises Limited, Mumbai, in drug discovery. He has to his credit 8 patents, 135 publications, and 14 books on various aspects of fungi and natural products of microbial origin. He was the president of the Mycological Society of India (MSI). He is a fellow of MSI, the Association of Biotechnology and Pharmacy, the Society for Applied Biotechnology, and the Maharashtra Academy of Science. He was a Fellow at Nano Biotechnology Centre, TERI, New Delhi, and Adjunct Associate Professor in Deakin University, Australia, till Jan 2019 who had been working towards the development of natural food colours, antioxidants, and biostimulants through nanotechnology intervention. He is also an advisor to Agpharm Bioinnovations LLP, Patiala, Punjab, India and Greenvention Biotech, Uruli-Kanchan, Pune. India.    Mukund V. Deshpande obtained his Ph.D. in 1982 in Biochemistry and D.Sc. in Microbiology from the University of Pune in 1994. He has been working extensively on the use of fungi and fungal products in Biotechnology. Dr. Deshpande successfully completed more than 35 research projects funded by national and international funding agencies like Indo-Swiss Collaboration in Biotechnology (ISCB) for the development of mycoinsecticide, Indo-Belarus programme of DBT on biopesticides, Indo-Mexico programme on fungal dimorphism, to name a few. Dr. Deshpande is an elected fellow of Maharashtra Academy of Sciences (FMASc, 1994) and the Society for Biocontrol Advancement (FSBA, 2010). He has to his credit more than 160 research papers, reviews and chapters, 8 patents, 8 books and a number of popular articles. He has his own start-up Greenvention Biotech located in Uruli-Kanchan, Pune for the translational activities in Agricultural Biotechnology.   Dr. Kandikere R. Sridhar is an adjunct professor in the Department of Biosciences, Mangalore University. His main areas of research are “Diversity and Ecology of Fungi of the Western Ghats, Mangroves and Marine Habitats”. He was an NSERC postdoctoral fellow/visiting professor at Mount Allison University, Canada; Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research-UFZ and Martin Luther University, Germany; Center of Biology, University of Minho, Portugal. He was the recipient of The Shome Memorial Award (2004), became Vice-President (2013), President (2018), and Lifetime Achievement Awardee (2019) by the Mycological Society of India. He was a recipient of The Fellow of Indian Mycological Society, Kolkata (2014), Distinguished Asian Mycologist (2015), and Outstanding Leader in Education and Research, Association of Agricultural Technology of Southeast Asia (2016). He was awarded the UGC-BSR Faculty Fellowship (2014-2017). Heis one of the world’s top 2% scientists in the field of mycology (2020-21). He has over 450 publications and edited eight books.
