Vegetable Oil Based Polymers and Their Surface Applications presents detailed coverage of principles, preparation methods and novel surface uses of vegetable oil based polymers. This comprehensive, state-of-the-art book follows the journey of vegetable oils from seeds to surfaces in a range of advanced applications. Opening chapters discuss theory, principles and characterization techniques while other sections present concepts on the preparation of different polymer types based on vegetable oil. The final section of the book provides extensive coverage of applications, enabling the preparation of vegetable oil based polymers for a range of products and industries.

This is a valuable resource for researchers, scientists, and advanced students in polymer chemistry, surfaces and coatings, natural polymers, materials chemistry, chemical engineering and plastics engineering. In an industrial setting, this book supports R&D professionals, scientists, and engineers interested in developing innovative biobased materials for a range of applications, including automotive and aerospace, packaging, cosmetics, pharmaceuticals, biomedicine and consumer goods.

Dr Eram Sharmin is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, College of Pharmacy, Umm Al-Qura University, Makkah, Saudi Arabia. She obtained her PhD degree in Chemistry from Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) - A Central University, New Delhi, India, in the year 2007. During and after her PhD, her focus of research has been the development of environment friendly coatings from commercial and vegetable oil based epoxies, polyols, polyurethanes, polyesteramides and others. She has published research and review articles on environment friendly coatings. She has more than 50 publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, and has presented more than 30 research papers in national and international conferences. Her research interests include the development of “green” materials with applications as antimicrobial and protective coatings, films, hydrogels, and packaging materials. Dr Fahmina Zafar is a senior researcher working at the Inorganic Materials Research Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, JMI, New Delhi, under the Women Scientists Scheme (WOS) for Research in Basic/Applied Sciences from the Dept. of Science & Technology, New Delhi, India. Dr Zafar received her PhD degree in Chemistry from JMI in 2006, MSc degree in Organic Chemistry from JMI in 1999 and BSc degree in Chemistry and Textile Clothing from Mahila Vidyalaya Degree College, Lucknow University, UP, in 1995. She has worked as post-doctoral fellow under Dr D. S. Kothari postdoctoral fellowship of University Grants Commission (UGC), New Delhi, India, at Inorganic Materials Research Laboratory, Dept. of Chemistry, JMI, as Senior Research Associate/Scientist Pool, Research Associate and Senior Research Fellow (CSIR, New Delhi) at Materials Research Laboratory, Department of Chemistry, JMI. She has more than 50 publications in conference proceedings, peer-reviewed journals and books. Her research work involves the development of bio-based polymers, metallopolymers, organic-inorganic hybrids, co-ordination polymers and nanocomposites for green environment in different fields including adsorption, antimicrobial and corrosion protective applications.
