This book discusses a wide range of topics (rigid pavements, pavement geotechnics, statistical and data tools in pavement engineering, pavement structures, asphalt mixtures, asphalt binders) and will be invaluable to academics and engineers involved or interested in pavement engineering.
Inspired from the legacy of the previous four 3DFEM conferences held in Delft and Athens as well as the successful 2018 AM3P conference held in Doha, the 2020 AM3P conference continues the pavement mechanics theme including pavement models, experimental methods to estimate model parameters, and their implementation in predicting pavement performance. The AM3P conference is organized by the Standing International Advisory Committee (SIAC), at the time of this publication chaired by Professors Tom Scarpas, Eyad Masad, and Amit Bhasin.

Advances in Materials and Pavement Performance Prediction II includes over 111 papers presented at the 2020 AM3P Conference. The technical topics covered include:

- rigid pavements

- pavement geotechnics

- statistical and data tools in pavement engineering

- pavement structures

- asphalt mixtures

- asphalt binders

The book will be invaluable to academics and engineers involved or interested in pavement engineering, pavement models, experimental methods to estimate model parameters, and their implementation in predicting pavement performance.

Dr. Kumar Anupam is an assistant professor in the Section of Pavement Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Delft University of Technology, the Netherlands. He is actively involved in teaching courses such as Micromechanical modelling of AC, Continuum Mechanics and Pavement Construction and Maintenance. His research activities are related but not limited to performance-based big-data analytics; tire-pavement interactions and micromechanical modeling of AC. He has been involved in several international projects which include FP7 EU projects and projects in the middle east. In national projects, he works in close cooperation with the Rijkswaterstraat, the Netherlands. He is a co-editor of Functional Pavement Design IV: Proceedings of the 4th Chinese - European Workshop on Functional pavement Design, CRC Press and Advances in Materials and Pavement Prediction: Papers from the International, CRC Press. He is an active member of the ISAP, TRB, APSE, iSMARTi and serves on the editorial board member of IJPE. Dr. Anupam holds a Bachelor's degree from Indian Institute of Technology-Roorkee, India and PhD degree from National University of Singapore, Singapore. Dr. Bhasin is Professor of Civil Engineering, Temple Endowed Teaching Fellow and Director of the Center for Transportation Research (CTR) at The University of Texas at Austin. His research and teaching interests are in the area of infrastructure materials. He performs research that relates fundamental properties of constituent materials to the engineering performance of composites such as asphalt concrete mixtures. Dr. Bhasin has led several research projects sponsored by private and public sector entities both within and outside of the United States. He is actively involved in several national and international organizations and committees pertaining to research in the area of pavements and materials. His research and teaching has been recognized through several different awards and honors including the National Science Foundation CAREER award, the CUTC-ARTBA award for outstanding contributions to research and teaching in transportation, the University of Texas System Regents outstanding teaching award, The University of Texas at Austin’s Presidents Associates teaching award and the American Society for Civil Engineers (ASCE) Walter L. Huber Research Prize. Dr. Papagiannakis is a Professor of Civil and Environmental Engineering with an academic career spanning over 30 years at Washington State University and at the University of Texas at San Antonio, where he served as the Dept. Chair between 2006 and 2015. He has contributed over 200 journal and conference publications in the pavement engineering field. In addition, he has co-authored the textbook Pavement Design and Materials published by Wiley & Sons in 2008. He has served as the lead in many national studies funded by NCHRP, FHWA and ASCE as well studies funded by Washington State DOT and the Texas DOT totaling over $11m. He has won several research awards, including ASCE’s Most Innovative Green Engineering Award (2016), ASCE' Next Generation Transportation Award (2017) and the Geo-Institute's Monismith Award (2019). Dr. Papagiannakis is the founder and the past chair of the Pavements Committee of the Geo-Institute that focusses on pavement geotechnics. He is an active member of the GI, T&DI, ISSMGE, ISAP, TRB and serves as an Associate Editor for ASCE's Transportation Engineering/Pavements Journal. Dr. Papagiannakis holds a PhD degree from the University of Waterloo, he is a Fellow of the ASCE and a registered Professional Engineer in Texas and Ontario. Professor Little is a Distinguished Professor, the E. B. Snead Chair Professor and Regents Professor in the Zachry Department of Civil Engineering at Texas A&M University and a senior research fellow in the Texas A&M Transportation Institute. He has published over 230 refereed journal publications and five book chapters and two books. He is a distinguished member of the American Society of Civil engineers (ASCE) and in 2016 received the Carl L. Monismith and France C. Turner distinguished lecture awards from ASCE. He served as inaugural editor-in-chief for ASCE’s Journal of Transportation Engineering: Part B – Pavements. He now holds the honorary title of "Founding Editor" of the journal. He is chair of the ASCE Council of Trustees and a member of the Board of Directors of the ASCE Foundation. He is also a member of the Board of Governors for the Academy of Pavement Science and Engineering, ASPE. Professor Little has given over 500 invited presentations including about 75 keynote level lectures. His primary research deliverables include thermodynamic-based models of reaction in chemically stabilized soils, method for soil stabilization including pozzolans, cements polymers (organic and inorganic) and a non-linear, viscoelastic, viscoplastic, anisotropic model of pavement performance now being adapted by the Federal Aviation Administration’s analysis of airfield pavements under next generation aircraft.
