This book systematically introduces the principles of flexible forming technologies to manufacture thin-walled complex-shaped components, the mechanism of controlling the material flow, the design and the configuration of flexible forming technologies' equipment and tools. It covers new technologies and new processes for forming hollow components, and relevant research on forming mechanisms, deformation laws, and defect control with examples from practical applications. It will be a useful reference for researchers, engineers, graduate and undergraduate students in aerospace, nuclear, railway, vehicle and petrochemical engineering, etc.

Prof. Xunzhong Guo is Professor of metal forming and plasticity, and Leader of the institute of advanced metal forming technologies, College of Material Science and Technology, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA), Nanjing, China. The research interests of him are flexible forming technologies (such as 3D-free bending technology, incremental forming technology, spinning forming technology, hydroforming, and multi-point forming technology); finite element modeling and simulation  of sheet and tube metal forming processes; materials characterization and microstructure evolution; crystal plasticity finite element modeling (CPFEM); multi-scale mechanics of materials; and formability improvement and prediction. His research group has achieved significant results in the aforementioned research era, successfully designed and manufactured the first flexible free bending equipment in China, and successfully manufactured some thin-walled complex shaped components used in some critical engineering such as aerospace, nuclear, railway, and automotive applications. Meantime, his research group has carried out outstanding research on key technologies for process simulation optimization and defects control. He has published more than 40 journal papers in high-impact international journals, and he possesses around 20 patents. He led the development of internal high-pressure forming series equipment, tube forming performance evaluation equipment, sheet forming performance testing equipment, incremental sheet metal forming equipment, and three-dimensional free bending forming equipment.
