This book combines comprehensive multi-angle discussions on fully connected and automated vehicle highway implementation. It covers the current progress of the works towards autonomous vehicle highway development, which encompasses the discussion on the technical, social, and policy as well as security aspects of Connected and Autonomous Vehicles (CAV) topics.

This, in return, will be beneficial to a vast amount of readers who are interested in the topics of CAV, Automated Highway and Smart City, among many others. Topics include, but are not limited to, Autonomous Vehicle in the Smart City, Automated Highway, Smart-Cities Transportation, Mobility as a Service, Intelligent Transportation Systems, Data Management of Connected and Autonomous Vehicle, Autonomous Trucks, and Autonomous Freight Transportation.

  • Brings together contributions discussing the latest research in full automated highway implementation;
  • Discusses topics such as autonomous vehicles, intelligent transportation systems, and smart highways;
  • Features contributions from researchers, academics, and professionals from a broad perspective.

Dr. Umar Zakir Abdul Hamid has 10+ years' knowledge in Control System Theory (Aircraft, Automotive and Robotics) and 6+ years' involvement in ADAS and Autonomous Vehicle. He has taken extensive part in a lot of projects for Driverless Technology (Road Vehicle, Indoor Robots and Autonomous Surface Vessel). His major concentration is in the 'Guidance, Navigation and Control', where earlier he did his PhD (collaboration with PROTON carmaker and Smart Mobility Research Center, Tokyo) in the 'Autonomous Vehicle Collision Avoidance' topics with the focus on Motion and Path Planning, and Control Strategies. Umar Zakir is a prolific researcher where he has published more than 15 scientific papers as the Lead Author. He is also an active reviewer and editor for several prestigious journals and conferences in the mentioned fields. He was a principal member of the pioneering team of Autonomous Vehicle (AV) in Malaysia, where he helped to build one of Southeast Asia's earliest AV Prototype while working with Moovita Pte Ltd (Singapore). He is now leading a team of 12 engineers in the production-scale autonomous vehicle planning and control systems algorithm development for Sensible 4 Oy (Finland), focusing on the automated driving use-case in the urban environment and all-weather scenario. Umar Zakir is an active member of several Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE) Task Force, focusing on the active-safety for autonomous vehicle topics. He is also one of the recipients for the Finnish Engineering Award 2020 for his contributions to the development of all-weather autonomous driving solution with Sensible 4. Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman received his Ph.D. in computer science from Queen's University, Kingston, Ontario, Canada, in 2011. He is a full professor and a research center director at Near East University, Nicosia, Cyprus. Prof. Al-Turjman is a leading authority in the areas of smart/intelligent, wireless, and mobile networks' architectures, protocols, deployments, and performance evaluation. His publication history spans over 250 publications in journals, conferences, patents, books, and book chapters, in addition to numerous keynotes and plenary talks at flagship venues. He has authored and edited more than 25 books about cognition, security, and wireless sensor networks' deployments in smart environments, published by Taylor and Francis, Elsevier, and Springer. He has received several recognitions and best papers' awards at top international conferences. He also received the prestigious Best Research Paper Award from Elsevier Computer Communications Journal for the period 2015-2018, in addition to the Top Researcher Award for 2018 at Antalya Bilim University, Turkey. Prof. Al-Turjman has led a number of international symposia and workshops in flagship communication society conferences. Currently, he serves as an associate editor and the lead guest/associate editor for several well reputed journals, including the IEEE Communications Surveys and Tutorials (IF 23.9) and the Elsevier Sustainable Cities and Society (IF 5.7).
