This book coherently presents advances in design principles, processes, and methods in healthcare product design. It captures the implications of technological advances on designing healthcare products especially when market and societal needs pull each other in opposite directions. The contents focus on innovative design thinking processes and methods in developing healthcare products, applications of digital technologies in healthcare product design, amalgamation of artificial intelligence and design thinking for healthcare product design and quality, sustainability, and regulatory aspects in the design process. This book is a useful reference for those in the industry and academia.

Karupppasamy Subburaj is an Assistant Professor and the lead for the Healthcare Engineering and Design track in the Engineering Product Development (EPD) Pillar at Singapore University of Technology and Design (SUTD). He leads the Medical Engineering and Design (MED) laboratory, an interdisciplinary research group specializing in the design and development of medical devices, medical imaging, image analysis methods, and computing tools for diagnosing, treating, and potentially preventing musculoskeletal disorders and disabilities. He brings basic scientists, clinical researchers, design engineers, and physicians together to conduct clinically relevant research and translate it to patient care. He is also passionate about design education and teaching and received the SUTD Outstanding Education Award: Excellence in Teaching (2019) for his contributions to healthcare education. His research resulted in 5 patents, 5 books, more than 60 peer-reviewed technical articles in highly referred international journals, and 80 international conference articles and presentations. Subburaj received his PhD from the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and postdoctoral research training in Musculoskeletal Quantitative Imaging Research laboratory in the Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging at the University of California San Francisco (UCSF).

Kamalpreet Sandhu is an Educator and Researcher at Plaksha University, Mohali, Punjab, INDIA. He has carried out various design projects in Podiatric Medicine at the Defence Institute of Physiology and Allied Sciences, DRDO, Delhi, including his recent work on designing and developing a novel orthosis for social needs and work.  His research interests are in Design Thinking for Healthcare and 3D printing and Ergonomics for Podiatric Medicine. He has edited multiple books, including Sustainability for 3D Printing, Emerging application of 3D printing during COVID-19 Pandemic, Food Printing: 3D printing in Food Sector, and 3D printing in Podiatric Medicine. He has been serving on the editorial board of the International Journal of Technology and Human Interaction (IJTHI), Advances in Science, Technology and Engineering Systems Journal (ASTESJ), and Frontiers in Manufacturing Technology. He has successfully established research collaborations in India and abroad to advance his research interest in Medical Device Design and Biomechanics.

Saša Cukovic is Marie Sklodowska Curie fellow at the Institute for Biomechanics (IfB/LMB), ETH Zurich, Switzerland. His main research interests include CAD/CAM systems, reverse engineering and non-invasive 3D reconstruction and modeling in engineering and medicine, computational biomechanics, augmented reality, and computer vision. He played a leading role in spinal modeling under the research project 'Application of Biomedical Engineering in Pre-clinical and Clinical Practice' (III41007), financed by the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia. He was a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship holder at ETH Zurich, DAAD grant holder at Technical University of Munich (Germany), and OeAD grant holder at TU Graz and MedUni Vienna (Austria) working on the non-invasive diagnosis of spinal deformities. He authored/co-authored 4 books and published more than 80 peer reviewed technical articles in journals and conference proceedings. He has been a scientific member of the Institute for Information Technologies Kragujevac, Serbia, since 2019. In February 2021, he became a CATIA Champion, recognition issued by Dassault Systems (Paris, France) for a long-term commitment to promoting and using PLM System CATIA.
