Protection of Wind Turbine Generators Using Microcontroller-Based Applications focuses on the application of microcontrollers in the protection of wind turbine generators. The book looks at the design and implementation of a versatile digital overcurrent (OC), OV/UV, OF/UF, and negative sequence relays, and addresses the dynamic behaviour of a wind-driven induction generator (IG) connected to a power system grid through a transmission line. The transient responses of protective devices associated with the IG are also studied. Modelling of the digital relay for wind turbine generator protection using MATLAB Simulink consider most of the aerodynamic and mechanical effects that can influence instantaneous output voltage, current, and power. Coverage also includes different AC fault types, a detailed theoretical analysis of fault and protection strategy in AC fault, and the different types of fault detection algorithms to maintain power system reliability.

Na?gwa F. Ibrahim, Ph.D.,Ph.D., is an Assistant Professor with the Department of Electrical Power and Machines, Faculty of Technology and Education, Suez University. She received her Ph.D. and MSc from Suez University and a BSc from Suez Canal University. Her research interests are focused in the areas of renewable energy sources, power system protection, power electronics, high voltage direct current (HVDC), control of power electronic converters, and electrical machine drives.

Sobhy Serry Dessouky, Ph.D., was a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Port Said University. In parallel, Dr. Dessouky worked as a Department Chair, Vice Dean for Community Affairs and Environment, and Director of the Engineering Research Center for Developing and Technological Planning. He received his Ph.D. degree from TU Dresden, and a BSc and MSc in electrical engineering from Suez Canal University and Helwan University, respectively. He supervised nearly 50 MSc and 25 Ph.D. students and published more than 100 papers in electrical power and high voltage engineering. He had been a member of the IEEE since 1996.

Hossam E. Mostafa Attia is a Professor in the Electrical Power and Machines Department and Dean of Faculty of Technology at Suez University, Egypt. He received his B.Sc, M.Sc, and Ph. D. degrees from the Faculty of Engineering, Ain Shams University, Egypt in 1987, 1994, and 1999, respectively. He was an Associate Professor at the College of Engineering, Jazan University, Saudi Arabia in the academic year 2008-2009, and a faculty member in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology at Jubail Industrial College (JIC), Saudi Arabia, from 2013 to 2019. Dr. Attia has published more than 40 papers in international journals and conferences and is a reviewer for many international journals.

Ali H. Kasem Alaboudy is an Associate Professor in the Electrical Power and Machines Department, Faculty of Technology and Education, Suez University, Egypt. He joined Suez Canal University as a tenure-track demonstrator and became a Teaching Assistant in 2002, Lecturer in 2009, Assistant Professor in 2011, and Associate Professor in 2014. He is an expert in analyzing and addressing R&D gaps and designing thematic calls and research programs and is currently a program manager with a national R&D funding agency. Dr. Alaboudy's current research interests include smart grids, distributed generation, wind energy, control and power quality issues, and power system control and operation. He received his M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in electrical engineering from Minia University, Egypt in 2002 and 2009, respectively.
