This book investigates geopolymers and geopolymer-based composites, with a focus on their preparation, geopolymerization mechanisms, microstructures, mechanical properties, and fracture behaviors. Geopolymers are inorganic materials consisting of tetrahedral units (such as [SiO4] and [AlO4]) linked by shared oxygens and forming long-range, covalently bonded and amorphous frameworks. Geopolymers have the advantages of low-temperature preparation, low cost, high heat and corrosion resistance, and being environmentally friendly. Using the preparation methods for epoxy-based composite, they can easily be formed into complex shapes or structures.

Intended for researchers investigating geopolymers and their matrix composite materials, this book is also a valuable resource for engineers from various fields, such as materials, mechanical, civil and structural engineering, as well as students interested in other kinds of inorganic materials or even cementitious materials in general.

Prof. Dechang Jia received his Ph.D. in materials science from Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China in 1997. Since 2003, he has been working there as a professor at the School of Materials Science and Engineering. Since 2014, he has been working as Director of the Institute of Advanced Ceramics, Harbin Institute of Technology. During 2005.11-2006.11 and 2015.08-2015.09, he worked as a national government visiting scholar and senior visiting scholar in the University of Illinois at Urbana Champaign (UIUC), USA, and Monash University, Australia, respectively.

Prof. Jia was selected as the Changjiang (Yangtze River) Scholar in 2009 and Distinguished Young Scholar of National Natural Science Foundation of China in 2012. He was also the winner of the Ten-Thousand Talent Program in China. His research primarily focuses on advanced ceramics and ceramic matrix composites. Prof. Jia has published five books and numerous peer-reviewed academic papers, more than 320 of which are indexed by SCI and EI. More than 60 invention patents have been authorized.

Dr. Peigang He received his Ph.D. from the Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin in 2011. From 2012 to 2014, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore. He currently works as an associate professor at the Harbin Institute of Technology, focusing on geopolymer and geopolymer matrix composites. He has authored and co-authored more than 90 peer-reviewed papers and one book.

Dr. Meirong Wang received her Ph.D. from the Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin in 2011. She currently works as a lecturer at the School of Materials Science and Engineering, Harbin Institute of Technology, Weihai, China. And she focuses her research on the preparation of new materials and welding of dissimilar materials. Till now she has authored and co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed papers.

Dr. Shu Yan received her Ph.D. from the Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin in 2016. She currently works as an associate professor at the School of Metallurgy, Northeastern University, Shenyang, China. And she focuses her research on nano-materials reinforced geopolymer matrix composites. She has authored and co-authored more than 40 peer-reviewed papers
