The primary focus of this book, accordingly, is to provide insight into the fundamentals, applications, manufacturing aspects and properties (mechanical, thermal, electrical etc.) of metal foams. Their potential applications in various small- as well as large-scale industries are highlighted. The present book also focuses on aspects of designing simple structures by taking into account loading conditions under tensile, compressive or torsional stress for metals and their foams. In view of theoretical analysis, clear explanation is provided as how metal foams can exhibit better structural properties when compared to their parent metal. It is hoped that the present book, in view of significant application potential of metal foams in near future, will be extremely useful to students and academicians in tertiary institutes and researchers working in research labs who are attempting to find lightweight solutions.

Dr. Dipen Kumar Rajak, in the midst of a healthy and intellectual upbringing, he obtained his Diploma in Technology-Manufacturing Engineering from University Polytechnic B.I.T Mesra Ranchi in 2008. Subsequently, graduated (B. Tech) in Mechanical Engineering from Ramgovind Institute of Technology, Koderma/Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribag in 2012. Besides having a strong technical expertise and analytical skills, he acquired his doctorate degree (Ph.D) from Indian Institute of Technology (ISM), Dhanbad in 2017. The academic achievements are manifested in his original research contributions through over 50 papers published in refereed international journals, includes 07-Indian Patent, 02-Design, 05-book chapters, and 01-book. He has received numerous awards 'Young Scientist Awards' 2019, Kasetsart University, Bangkok-Thailand, Young Scientist on Research Excellence and Academic Awards-2019, Mumbai and 'Excellence in Research Awards' 2018 Delhi-India, 'Outstanding Reviewer Award' from Elsevier journals in 2016 and 'International Travel Grant', 'Best Session Paper Award' in International Conferences-2015 in Thailand'. Dr. Rajak is associated with foreign and national universities & international societies, IEI, IIM, ISTE, IETI, DAAAM, IAAM, ISAET, NASS along with that he is an editorial board members and reviewer of refereed international journals. Dr. Rajak is currently working as Assistant Professor of Department of Mechanical Engineering at Sandip Institute of Technology & Research Centre, Nashik. Also, serving as a Nashik-Branch President for International Engineering and Technology Institute, Hong Kong, and the Recent work consists of development of aluminium foams for different applications where low density and high specific energy absorption is required in automobile, aerospace and thermal management sectors, include fiber reinforcement materials, and metal matrix composites.

?Dr Manoj Gupta was a former Head of Materials Division of the Mechanical Engineering Department and Director designate of Materials Science and Engineering Initiative at NUS, Singapore. He did his BEng from VRCE-Nagpur in 1984 (First Class with Distinction), MEng from IISC- Bangalore in 1987 (Gold Medalist) Ph.D. from University of California, Irvine, USA (1992), and postdoctoral research at University of Alberta, Canada (1992). In August 2017 he was highlighted among Top 1% Scientist of the World Position by The Universal Scientific Education and Research Network and among 2.5% among scientists as per ResearchGate. To his credit are: (i) Disintegrated Melt Deposition technique and (ii) Hybrid Microwave Sintering technique to synthesize alloys/micro/nano-composites. He has published over 580 peer reviewed journal papers and owns two US patents and 1 Trade secret.  His current h-index is 67, RG index is 47.5 and citations are greater than 17000. He has also co-authored six books, published by John Wiley, Springer and MRF - USA and edited many others. He is Editor-in-chief/Editor of twelve international peer reviewed journals. A multiple award winner, he actively collaborate/visit as invited researcher, visiting and chair professor in Japan, France, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, China, USA and India.
