Attenuation of Incoherent Seismic Noise (eBook)
XIV, 182 Seiten
Springer International Publishing (Verlag)
978-3-030-32948-8 (ISBN)
This book examines the effects of incoherent noise and how it leads to the misinterpretation of seismic data. It also reviews common noise reduction approaches and their drawbacks, focusing on developments that have occurred in the past decade.
The main features of this book include:• Hands-on implementation in MATLAB and/or C
• In-depth discussions of both theoretical and practical aspects of the subject
• Supplementary, real-world seismic data
• Detailed descriptions of structure-enhancing filters.
Connecting the theory and practical implementation of noise reduction, the book helps readers fill the gap from equations to code, and from classical filters to the preservation and enhancement of a robust structure. Lastly, it highlights cutting-edge research in the area.As such, it is of interest to researchers in the fields of petroleum engineering, exploration seismology, and geophysics, as well as to practitioners working in the petroleum industry.
Dr. Abdullatif Al-Shuhail is a Professor of Geophysics at King Fahd University of Petroleum & Minerals (KFUPM). He received his B.S. in Geophysics from KFUPM in 1988, and both his M.S. and Ph.D. in Geophysics from Texas A&M University at College Station in 1993 and 1998, respectively. Since then, he has been teaching and advising at KFUPM. He founded and directed the Near Surface Seismic Investigation Consortium at KFUPM in 2006-2008. He has authored and co-authored over 70 papers in the field of petroleum seismic exploration, and is a co-holder of five USPTO patents. He is a co-author of the books Processing of Seismic Reflection Data Using MATLAB, published by Morgan & Claypool Publishers in 2011 and Seismic Data Interpretation Using Digital Image Processing published by John Wiley & Sons in 2017. He is an active member of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists, the European Association of Geoscientists & Engineers, and the Dhahran Geoscience Society. His interests include near-surface effects on petroleum seismic data, seismic investigation of fractured reservoirs, and ground-penetrating radar.
Dr. Saleh Al-Dossary is a Principal Scientist at Saudi Aramco. He has published 14 peer-reviewed papers and one book. He received the 'Outstanding Student Award' and 'Best Research Paper' from the University of Houston and the Houston Geophysical Society (HGS in 2003). He was recognized at the 2015 Saudi Aramco Excellence Award Ceremony for his outstanding contributions to the company and his ongoing pursuit of excellence, and his paper was awarded first place at the 2015 SPE Annual Technical Symposium, held in Al Khobar, Saudi Arabia. Dr. Al-Dossary is engaged in several industry-leading activities, and he has been selected to serve as a technical committee member for various international conferences, such as the EAGE, SEG, and GEO. He has also acted as chairperson for numerous international conferences including the EAGE and GEO. Further, Dr. Al-Dossary has served as a technical reviewer for the journals Geophysics and Computers & Geosciences since 2011, and was selected as one of the special section editors of the Interpretation Journal and Seismic Attributes.
