Metals and Non-metals

Design of new processes that avoid the use of toxic reagents has been the focus of intense research of late. Catalysis by metals and non-metals offers diverse opportunities for the development of new organic reactions with promising range of selectivities—chemoselectivity, regioselectivity, diastereoselectivity, and enantioselectivity. Furthermore, these transformations frequently occur under mild conditions, tolerate a broad array of functional groups, and proceed with high stereoselectivity. The area of catalysis is sometimes referred to as a ‘foundational pillar’ of green chemistry. Catalytic reactions often reduce energy requirements and decrease separations because of increased selectivity; they are also capable of permitting the use of renewable feedstocks of less toxic reagents or minimizing the quantities of reagents needed. New catalytic organic synthesis methodologies have, thus, offered several possibilities for considerable improvement in the eco-compatibility of fine chemical production. Hence, these catalytic methodologies have emerged as powerful tools for the efficient and chemoselective synthesis of heterocyclic molecules.

Dr. Navjeet Kaur received her B.Sc. from Punjab University Chandigarh (Punjab, India) in 2008. In 2010, she completed her M.Sc. in Chemistry from Banasthali Vidyapith. She was awarded with PhD in 2014 by the same university, under the supervision of Prof. D. Kishore. Presently, she is working as an Assistant Professor in Department of Chemistry, Banasthali Vidyapith and has entered into a specialized research career focused on the synthesis of 1,4-benzodiazepine-based heterocyclic compounds (Organic Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry). With 8 years of teaching experience, she has published over 137 scientific research papers, review articles, book chapters, and monographs in the field of organic synthesis in national and international reputed journals. She has published a book "Palladium Assisted Synthesis of Heterocycles" with CRC Press, Taylor & Francis group. She was presented the Prof. G. L. Telesara Award in 2011 by Indian Council of Chemists (Agra, Uttar Pradesh) at Osmania University (Hyderabad), and the Best Paper Presentation Award in National Conference on "Emerging Trends in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences" (Banasthali Vidyapith, Rajasthan). She has attended about 40 conferences, workshops and seminars. Apart from all this, she has been working as NSS Program Officer since 2016, member of UBA (Unnat Bharat Abhiyan) since 2018 and has delivered numerous radio talks. Dr. Navjeet finds interest in Sikh literature and has completed a two-year Sikh Missionary course from Sikh Missionary College (Ludhiana, Punjab).
