This book presents the basic theories of Plastic Mechanics of Geomaterial, including the static and dynamic mechanical properties, nonlinear and classical plastic theory, yield surface theory, hardening model, flow rule and loading–unloading criterion, the calculation theory of principal stress axe rotation, and limit analysis of geomaterial and the latest advances in FEM limit analysis. It also set forth the typical static and dynamic constitutive model of geomaterial in detail.

Broadening our understanding of the basic mechanical properties and constitutive model for geomaterial, the book helps readers to establish and select the most appropriate constitutive model according to the specific engineering problems and geomaterial characteristics. This book is a valuable resource for designers and researchers in fields related to geotechnical engineering, and it can also be used as a textbook for graduate courses.

YuanXue Liu has long been engaged in teaching and research in the field of constitutive relation of geomaterial and underground engineering. He has won 11 scientific awards at the provincial level, has published over 100 papers, and more than 40 indexed by SCI/EI, and has authorized 5 national invention patents. He has held 15 academic positions, such as the Standing Director of the Chinese Society of Information Technology and Application of Geotechnical Engineering, and editorial board member of Modern Tunnel Technology. He was adviser to two Chongqing outstanding thesis. He was selected for the Chongqing “322 Talents Project” in 2005, and received the young science silver medal of Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering in 2006. In 2008, he was awarded the education silver medal, new star of science and technology, outstanding teachers at provincial level, and academic leaders in Chongqing. In 2014, he was elected as the Director of Chongqing Key Laboratory of Geomechanics and Geological Environmental Protection.   Yingren Zheng, Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, is a famous expert in geotechnical engineering. Abundant achievements have been acquired in the fields of underground engineering, slope engineering, Rock Mechanics, Plastic Mechanics of Geomaterial, limit analysis of geomaterial, regional soil and so on. He is the adviser of Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering, Special Committee of Rock and Soil Mechanics of Chinese Society of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics, Chinese Industry Association of Geological Disaster Prevention and Control Engineering, etc. He is also the member of the National Emergency response team of Geological Disaster.
