Compiling research from the last two decades, Nanomaterials for Environmental Protection provides an interdisciplinary approach to applying nanomaterials to disinfect water, air, and soil while addressing possible environmental risks associated with nanoparticles.
This book is divided into four main sections thoroughly analyzing the use of nanomaterials for water, air and soil solutions, and emphasizing environmental risks.

Providing background on nanomaterials' two-decade study, it discusses the characterization and application of unconventional disinfectants, called antimicrobial nanomaterials, which fall into three categories and, while seemingly harmless, have potential hazards if applied improperly.

Special attention is given to the process of remediation, synthetics techniques, and properties of nanomaterials, with examples to which new and trained readers in the field can relate and understand.

Boris I. Kharisov, PhD, is Professor and Researcher atthe Universidad Autonoma de Nuevo Leon (UANL). Hereceived his PhD in inorganic chemistry from the Moscow State University, Russia, in 1993. He holds two patents, has co-authoredsix books, five book chapters, 127 articles, and co-edited threeinvited special issues of international journals, and is the memberof the editorial board of four journals. His specialties include coordination and inorganic chemistry, phthalocyanines, ultrasound,and nanotechnology.

Oxana V. Kharissova, PhD, is Professor and Researcher atthe UANL. She received her PhD in Materials from the UniversidadAutonoma de Nuevo Leon, Mexico. She has co-authored threebooks, 60 articles, and has two patents. Her specialties includenanotechnology (carbon nanotubes, nanometals, fullerenes), andcrystallography. H.V. Rasika Dias, PhD, is Professor of Chemistry at theUniversity of Texas at Arlington. He received his PhD from University of California, Davis. Specializing in inorganic andorganometallic chemistry, he has co-authored several patents andover 160 publications. His accolades include the 2009 SouthwestRegional American Chemical Society Award.
